Back when I had both a mobile device and a mobile phone, I had an HP iPaq 2215. It was fun to write little applications for a handheld device and when I got my first Windows Mobile Phone with the .net Compact framework I was able to do a lot more. I owned a string of Windows mobile phones but was never really pleased with having to pull out a stylus to do input all the time.
The first time I used an iPhone I wasn't impressed with the lack up buttons and the newness of the OS and UI but after really giving it a full comparison I realized that compared to the Windows Mobile OS, Apple had beaten Windows in the user interface game.
But the big downside is that I am frustrated that I can't develop on my iPhone. I could buy a Mac at 3x the cost of a Windows machine and spend the money for a developer license but I haven't been able to bring myself to do that.
So Android or now the totally revamped Windows Mobile are the next best alternative. I'm torn but with the Windows Phone 7 Developer launch coming up I get a chance to learn all about Windows Phone 7.
Anyone in Madison planning to go? Chicago isn't that far...
